Brand: Charge Utile
Series: Special Issue N°82 - Provincial construction sites
(pages: 84)
Parisian construction sites have already been the subject of two special issues Useful load (nos. 4 and 66 respectively). We now present a new work entirely devoted to provincial construction sites. Some of these, however, are located in the Paris suburbs. We've tried to give the book a common thread by first classifying it thematically by major worksite, then by vehicle model and machine type, with two articles devoted to machines from the Morin and Deschiron companies and another to Euclid equipment sold by De Talbet, the brand's importer in France at the time.
The photographs cover the period from 1945 to the end of the 1960s, at the heart of the "Trente Glorieuses" (glorious thirty years), when construction sites multiplied, first for reconstruction after the immense damage caused by the Second World War, then for infrastructure and equipment in the 1950s and 1960s: construction of roads, freeways, bridges, dams, housing, power stations, airports, etc.
The vehicles and equipment used to carry out this work reflected the constraints of the time: those of Surplus, for want of a better word, in a period of great scarcity, then those of the Marshall Plan to satisfy basic needs at a time of economic recovery. In both cases, massive imports of foreign materials were required as borders opened up following the creation of the Common Market.
