Series: Special issue N°109 - surplus vehicles
(pages: 84)
From the Liberation to the early 1980s, World War II surplus vehicles became an integral part of the French road and construction landscape. These vans and trucks were the architects of the "Trente Glorieuses", and for many years they replaced domestically produced models, just long enough for industry to take off again. Some even survived alongside them for decades, as users were unable to find equivalent equipment at such competitive prices.
What fire department hasn't owned a Dodge or a GMC? What garage hasn't acquired a Ward-LaFrance tow truck? What earthmoving or public works company hasn't used an American six-wheel tipper in its early days? These reliable, sturdy, durable workhorses, which often perform well off-road, deserved a special issue. And now we've done it.
