Brand: Charge Utile
Series: Special Issue N°118 - Berliet 1978-1980

(pages: 84)

Having started out in 1906, Berliet's industrial vehicle manufacturing activity came to an end in 1980. Two years earlier, in 1978, a new legal entity was created: Renault Véhicules Industriels, whose purpose was to merge the Berliet and Saviem companies, now both subsidiaries of Régie Renault.

In preparation for the merger, the new management set about the delicate task of harmonizing the structures and products of the two brands, with the aim of strengthening Renault VI's competitiveness and giving it an international dimension. From 1978 onwards, this work gave rise to a harmonized range of models, some of them hybrids, most of which were sold under the two brands with different names.

This was the era of the B range, the Berliet version of Saviem's J range, as well as the GB 131 to GRH 235 6 x 4 Saviem cab models, the new GLR 190 and 230, the restyled GR and TR 280 and the GBH 6 x 6. This important evolution is presented and analyzed in detail in this new special issue.
