For many French people, especially the older ones, Colas is first and foremost a dump truck, a "tarring machine" and a road roller, a smell of hot bitumen and fresh gravel. And indeed, road construction and rehabilitation is where Colas was born and has been growing since the 1930s.

Over the years, this former subsidiary of the Shell Group has gained its independence and extended its sphere of influence to become a multinational company, integrated into the Bouygues Group in 1986. Since its origins, Colas has never ceased to modernize, improve its techniques and develop new products.
